Located in Arizona, SST is developing new high efficiency Concentrating Solar Dish energy products for intermediate scale commercial and industrial applications in sunny regions around the world.
We have developed a unique Concentrating Photovoltaic (CPV) Dish technology using high efficiency multi-junction solar cells. Liquid cooling maintains solar cell efficiency under very high concentration, with the option to use the byproduct heat for on-site applications. The system employs proprietary cooling, optics, on-board power conversion, data collection and control.
Development is now underway of Thermal Dish technology integrated with high-efficiency Turbine generation and Energy Storage. This unique approach provides 24 hour solar power, with option for fuel-backup, in applications ranging from 100 kW to 10 MW.
This 24 hour / firm power capability is not available from PV or wind systems except by using very large battery banks and backup generators. The SST Thermal Dish Turbine system can be compared to very large scale utility scale CSP (concentrating solar power) thermal systems, but unlike large-scale CSP a field of SST Dish units can be sized for on-site commercial/industrial and distributed utility applications. A project can start from a megawatt or less, and can be expanded in phases to several megawatts or more.
